Kazi Nazrul Islam
Kazi Nazrul Islam was born on 24 May 1899 (11th of 1306 Bengal) in Churulia village of Burdwan district of West Bengal. He is a poet, novelist, storyteller, lyricist, performer, composer and essayist. Nazrul's childhood was spent in misery. Hence his nickname was Dukhu Mia. His varied educational career began in the village school. After becoming fatherless, he dropped out of school and joined Leto's troupe, from whom he learned the art of poetry and songwriting. After one year in Darirampur High School, Mymensingh, he was again admitted to Shearsol Raj School, Raniganj, Churulia, and studied there for three years. He had to drop out before the entrance exam to join the war. Although he was stationed at various places during the war days, his soldier life in Karachi is notable because it was then that his talent was recognized by the publication of the story called 'Boundel's Autobiography'. The contents of Kazi Nazrul Islam's books are varied. However, in the book of Kazi Nazrul Islam, contemporary political and social sufferings and the concept of communism are prominently placed. His literary talent was revealed in the Rabindranic period but his works were completely different. Kazi Nazrul Islam's books include 'Rikter Bedan', 'Dolanchanpa', 'Visher Banshi', 'Saymavadi', 'Sarbhara', 'Prolayashikha' etc. A versatile talent, Nazrul was the editor of 'Saptahik Langal', bi-weekly magazine 'Dhumketu'. Kazi Nazrul Islam, the national poet of Bangladesh and rebel poet of Bengali literature, died on 29 August 1976 in Dhaka.
